red wine1 300x199 The Popularity of Red Wine with Women

Drinking was always dominated by men. It’s kind of a double standard where it was perfectly okay for men to drink while the women stay at home and tend to the house. Well, that was then and this is now. I’m not saying that the double standard has disappeared completely, however, women drinking is much more socially acceptable now in modern society.

The truth is, it’s still a man’s world when it comes to drinking alcoholic beverages. In the UK, Germany and France, the disparity in genders are so far apart when it comes to drinking. Germany leads with the biggest gender gap with 61% of German women drinking alcohol, compared to some 80% of German men.

This number is not so bad compared to recent decades. Just try and search for “Wine” and “Women” on Google and you will come up with 437,000,000 search results. I believe that the popularity of wine with women are for two reasons. One, is certainly the empowerment of women today. Two, is for health reasons that red wine benefits women.

Health benefits of red wine for women

1. Health of the heart – Red wine prevents bad cholesterol while facilitating the numbers of good cholesterol in the body.

2. It fights blood clots – Fibrinogen is something that wine prevents in the body. This protein when prevented will reduce blood clots in the body.

3. Healthier and longer life – Red wine is said to contain resveratrol which is researched to increase life expectancy and an overall increase in the quality of life.

4. Lowers blood pressure – Red wine is known to lower blood pressure and fight hypertension.

The flip side
Although drinking
red wine can help women in a lot of ways, moderation is still a rule of thumb. There is a flip side, a caveat if you will, from drinking a lot of red wine. Unfortunately, there are studies that linked cancer and drinking of red wine. Actually, just drinking alcoholic beverages in general is linked to an increase rate in cancer.

Aside from this, the empty calories in Red Wine can cause obesity. The American Heart Association recommends one or two glasses a day for men and one drink a day for women.

If you are really looking for a healthy alternative to red wine, then most doctors would suggest that you try exercise and adding fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Indeed, everyone is a witness to the growing popularity of organic products. Nowadays, many people are opting for organic vegetables, organic blankets, organic fruits and yes, organic wines. Of course, these wines are also referred to sometimes as biodynamic wines or wines that are manufactured using organic grapes. Experts, however, know that there is a difference between certified organic wines and wines that have been produced from organic grapes.

The Laws Concerning Organic Wines

The manufacture of organic wines has been quite controversial in the United States but not in Europe. The European Law has clearly defined what constitutes organic products. In order for any organic product to be certified as such, it must undergo the necessary government inspection and certification process and with every country in Europe has its own certification body, this process is not optional.

In the United States, it is the Department of Agriculture that generally regulates manufacture and farming of organic products. The department makes sure that standards are met before a farm or a facility can sell organic products. However, it was not easy for organic winemakers to introduce their products. The Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms did not make it easy for these wines to be introduced in the market. This prompted Hallcrest Vineyards to rally for the acceptance and certification of organic wines. Their efforts eventually paid off. Nowadays, you would find several wineries manufacturing organic wines.

Identifying Organic Wines

There is one thing that you have to understand about organic wines. First of all, the fact that a wine is made from organically-grown grapes does not automatically make it organic. Organic wines need to be certified. Of course, the grapes used to produce them should be organically grown. Aside from that, however, the process of manufacturing these wines including should be organic-oriented. This means that preservatives should not be added. As long as any chemical is added, the wine is not anymore organic.

Organic Wines and Their Benefits

There are many health benefits to drinking organic wines. It is really hard to forego wines totally, so you would certainly appreciate wines that are healthy and pure. If you are suffering from asthma or if you are allergic to sulphur dioxide, you should turn to organic wines. Sulphur dioxide is the one thing that these wines do not have and that regular wines do, but with organic wines, you wouldn’t have to suffer migraines or rashes anymore.

Currently, the market for organic wines is fairly small and there are only quite few winemakers specializing in these kinds of wines. However, there is a seemingly increasing and growing interest from the wine market. This is not surprising considering that there is a big clamor for organic products nowadays. If you prefer things organic, you would be pleased to know that your wine can also be organic.
