The young Spaniard climbed to the top of the rankings after defeating former world No. 1 Roger Federer, who is considered as one of the world’s greatest tennis players of all time, in a series of matches. Yelena Isinbayeva is a Russian athlete who currently holds the world record for both indoor and outdoor pole-vaulting. Coming from a poor family in Volgograd, this charming 26-year-old is another living testament that poverty is not a hindrance in achieving your dreams. Isinbayeva was named Female Athlete of the Year by the International Association of Athletics Federation for three separate years and World Sportswoman of the Year by the sports award-giving body Laureaus. Sports critics hailed the pole vaulter as one of the greatest and most successful sports personalities of her generation.
